Planning Maps
Planning maps covering Sections of VIT
This series of seven topographic maps covers all Sections of the VI Trail from Anderson Hill in Oak Bay to Cape Scott. Each of these maps covers a portion of the VI Trail suited to a Section Hike from and to an accessible trailhead. This series of maps is intended mainly for office/planning purposes, but hikers often carry printed copies as a backup to their digital devices.
The maps identify trail sections in green, meaning trails that are cleared, marked and mostly with a defined trail-tread. Sections following road or rail-grade (mostly inactive, often grown-in or growing-in) are highlighted in yellow and sections over water are blue. Sections without a defined trail that are merely a route with little or no clearing or markers are highlighted in orange. In addition to the basic topographic map content, the maps also show formal campsites, a few cabins, roads that provide access to/bail-out routes from the Trail, as well as gates on private roads that prevent vehicular access unless opened to the public on weekends and holidays – see Mosaic’s Public Access WebApp for the latest gate openings.
