Vision, Mission & Values
Vision Statement
A hiking trail linking communities on Vancouver Island from Victoria to Cape Scott.
Mission Statement
To plan, build and maintain the Vancouver Island Trail in collaboration with Indigenous Peoples and stakeholders by linking existing and new trails along the length of Vancouver Island.
Our Values – Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
The Vancouver Island Trail Association is committed to a hiking trail that links communities on Vancouver Island from Victoria to Cape Scott. To make that a reality, we are committed to doing all we can to help make the Trail and our organization a welcoming and inclusive space. We value diversity, equity and inclusion that respects and reflects the ways people connect with the Trail. This is why we believe and live the following values:
Respect – We value our members, volunteers, stakeholders, partners, Indigenous Peoples and trail users as we build and enjoy the trail.
Collaboration – We work closely with a variety of peoples, governments and organizations to ensure the trail belongs to all.
Diversity – We recognize the differences between peoples, the Island, and the environment, and acknowledge that these differences are a valued asset to be shared.
Inclusion – We create environments in which any individual or group can feel welcomed, respected, supported and valued.
Caring – We hold ourselves accountable for the air, land and water within the communities and eco-systems as we build, maintain and use the trail.
